Directions

  1. 1Start with a little oil in a pan and add one whole finely diced onion.
  2. 2Cook on medium heat until soft and semi-transparent.
  3. 3Then add 2 lbs of ground beef, break it apart and let it cook through.
  4. 4Season with salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg.
  5. 5Mix well and set the meat mixture aside.
  6. 6In a saucepan, melt one stick of unsalted butter with a small splash of oil.
  7. 7Grab a shallow, foil-lined tray and brush some of that butter at the bottom.
  8. 8Take a quarter of a stack of filo dough, lay it down, even it out, brush it with butter.
  9. 9Then add another quarter of filo dough on top and brush with butter.
  10. 10Now spread the meat mixture evenly so it covers the entire layer.
  11. 11Repeat the same layering: another quarter of filo, brush with butter, then the final quarter, and don't forget the butter on top.
  12. 12In a medium mug, add one Maggi cube and fill about three quarters of the way with milk.
  13. 13Microwave it for about a minute just until the cube melts without boiling.
  14. 14Cut the goulash into even pieces, big or small.
  15. 15In a bowl, whisk one egg with some black pepper, add it to the milk and Maggi mixture and mix again.
  16. 16Pour it evenly over the tray and use your hands if you need to help it settle into the cuts.
  17. 17Then into a 400°F (200°C) preheated oven for about 35 minutes until golden and crispy on top.
