Homemade Mozzarella Cheese

Directions

  1. 1Add half a gallon of whole milk to a large pot.
  2. 2Bring the milk to 115°F over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. 3Add 1/3 cup (about 7 tablespoons) of white vinegar to the milk.
  4. 4Mix for about a minute until curds form.
  5. 5Cover the pot and let sit for 15 minutes.
  6. 6Strain the curds from the whey using cheesecloth or a strainer.
  7. 7Squeeze out as much whey as possible from the curds.
  8. 8Microwave the curds for 30 seconds.
  9. 9Remove any extra whey from the curds.
  10. 10Carefully fold and stretch the curds to form mozzarella balls.
  11. 11Place mozzarella balls in a bowl with cold water and a pinch of salt.
  12. 12Allow the mozzarella to cool in the water for 10-15 minutes.
  13. 13Slice and serve.
