Chinese Takeout Pepper Steak

Directions

  1. 1Cut half an onion, half a yellow pepper, and half a red pepper into bite-sized pieces.
  2. 2Cut about a pound of sirloin tender steak into thin strips.
  3. 3Add the steak to a baggy.
  4. 4Add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, 2 tablespoons of less sodium soy sauce, 0.5 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper to the baggy with the steak.
  5. 5Close the bag and give it a good shake to coat all the steak pieces.
  6. 6Set the steak aside to velvet.
  7. 7In a separate bowl, add 0.5 cup of water, 4 tablespoons of less sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons of hoisin sauce, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 2 teaspoons of cornstarch, and 2 teaspoons of dark soy sauce.
  8. 8Mix everything really well to create the sauce mixture.
  9. 9In a pan, add your favorite oil (e.g., avocado oil).
  10. 10Add the marinated steak to the pan and cook it to about 50%.
  11. 11Add all the cut vegetables and mushrooms to the pan with the steak.
  12. 12Cook the vegetables and mushrooms down some.
  13. 13Give the sauce mixture a stir and pour it into the pan.
  14. 14Let the mixture simmer.

Tips

  • You can use mushroom sauce or vegan oyster sauce as a substitute for oyster sauce.
  • You can use regular soy sauce, but the dish might come out saltier.
