Chakkera Pongali

Directions

  1. 1Wash the rice and moong dal well.
  2. 2Add 1 tablespoon of ghee to a pressure cooker.
  3. 3Fry the washed rice and dal until their color changes.
  4. 4Add 6 cups of hot water to the rice and dal.
  5. 5Cook for 5 whistles in medium flame.
  6. 6Take 1 1/2 cups of jaggery in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of water.
  7. 7Melt the jaggery to create a syrup.
  8. 8Add 1 tablespoon of ghee to a frying pan.
  9. 9Fry cashews, dry coconut pieces, raisins, and cloves until golden brown.
  10. 10Once the rice and dal are cooked, open the pressure cooker.
  11. 11Strain the jaggery syrup into the cooked rice and dal.
  12. 12Mix well with the rice.
  13. 13Cook for 3-5 minutes on a low flame.
  14. 14Add 1 tablespoon of ghee, the fried dry fruits and nuts, and 1 teaspoon of elachi to the pongali.
  15. 15Mix everything thoroughly.
  16. 16Serve the Chakkera Pongali.

  • 1 tsp Elachi
