Directions

  1. 1Whisk or blend the ingredients (eggs, sugar, butter, milk, vanilla, flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, orange zest) to create the batter.
  2. 2Thinly slice the peeled apples.
  3. 3Fold the apple slices into the batter.
  4. 4Pour the mixture into a greased baking pan.
  5. 5Sprinkle the reserved tablespoon of cane sugar over the top.
  6. 6Bake until set and golden brown.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • to taste butter, for greasing
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp aluminum-free baking powder
  • 1 small orange zest
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 3 whole egg, room temp
  • 1/2 cup cane sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cane sugar
  • 4 medium apple
  • to taste powdered sugar (optional)
  • to taste whipped cream (optional)

Tips

  • Use plant butter as a substitute for butter.
  • Use unsweetened soy milk or rich oat milk as a substitute for whole milk.
  • Use vanilla extract (1 tsp) as a substitute for vanilla bean paste.
  • Use a gluten-free flour blend as a substitute for all-purpose flour.
  • Recommended apple varieties include Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady (totaling about 2 3/4 lbs).
  • Can be served with powdered sugar or whipped cream.
  • Delicious served cold directly from the fridge.
