Directions

  1. 1Sift 4 cups of flour into a bowl.
  2. 2Add a heaping teaspoon of baking soda to the flour.
  3. 3Add a teaspoon of salt to the flour mixture.
  4. 4Pour 2 cups of buttermilk into the dry ingredients.
  5. 5Mix the ingredients together using only your hands until a dough forms.
  6. 6Flour a cast iron skillet.
  7. 7Place the dough into the floured skillet.
  8. 8Cut a cross on top of the loaf.
  9. 9Bake in a hot oven at 400°F for 45 to 55 minutes.
  10. 10Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool.
