Directions

  1. 1Heat mustard oil in a pressure cooker and add a pinch of salt to prevent the potatoes from sticking.
  2. 2Add the boiled and halved potatoes to the oil and sauté until light golden.
  3. 3Remove the potatoes from the cooker.
  4. 4Prepare a spice paste by blending garlic, dried red chilies, black pepper, cumin seeds, and ginger in a mixer jar.
  5. 5Add cumin seeds, bay leaves, and broken dried red chilies into the remaining hot oil for tempering.
  6. 6Add the chopped onion and sauté until light brown.
  7. 7Mix turmeric powder and coriander powder into the prepared spice paste, then add this mixture to the sauteed onions.
  8. 8Add a little water to rinse the mixer jar and pour it into the cooker to cook the spices thoroughly.
  9. 9Add chopped tomatoes and salt to the masala and cook until the tomatoes soften and oil separates.
  10. 10Add the fried potatoes to the masala and sauté them together so they absorb the flavors.
  11. 11Pour in hot water to create the gravy.
  12. 12Close the pressure cooker lid and cook for one whistle.
  13. 13Open the cooker, garnish with fresh chopped coriander, and serve.

  • 2.5-3 tbsp mustard oil
  • salt (optional)
  • medium size boiled potato, halved
  • 15 g garlic clove, peeled
  • 4 dried red chili
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1.5 tsp cumin seed
  • piece ginger
  • cumin seed (optional)
  • 2 bay leaf
  • dried red chili (optional)
  • 90-100 g onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder (optional)
  • 2 small tomato, chopped
  • 500 g hot water
  • to taste fresh coriander, chopped
