Anthony Bourdain's Mortadella Sandwich

instagram.com
Serves 1

Directions

  1. 1Add oil to a skillet on medium-high heat and once heated, add the three piles of Mortadella into the pan.
  2. 2Cook the mortadella for 1-2 minutes until the bottom is browned and crispy.
  3. 3Flip the mortadella and add a slice of provolone cheese on each pile.
  4. 4Once the cheese has melted and the bottom has browned, stack the piles of meat on top of each other.
  5. 5Add the buns to the same skillet so they can soak up all the juices from the pan, until the buns are golden brown.
  6. 6Mix together dijon mustard and some mayo and add it to your buns.
  7. 7Add the beautiful stack of meat and cheese to the bottom bun.
  8. 8Add pickles to the sandwich.
  9. 9Add caramelized onions to the sandwich.
  10. 10Top the sandwich with the other bun and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 pound thinly sliced mortadella
  • 3 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 brioche bun or a kaiser or sourdough roll
  • 1 tbsp mayo
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • Pickles
  • Caramelized onions
  • Avocado oil

Tips

  • This is not the exact recipe, the creator added their own twist to it.
  • Divide the mortadella into 3 loose piles. Make sure there are air pockets between the slices to get those browned crispy edges.
