Steak with Mushroom Sauce and Mashed Potatoes

Directions

  1. 1Slice up some mushrooms, not too thick and not too thin.
  2. 2Mince up some garlic.
  3. 3Sauté the mushrooms in olive oil until they're lightly golden.
  4. 4Add in butter.
  5. 5Add in minced garlic.
  6. 6Add in flour.
  7. 7Add in salt and pepper.
  8. 8Let this cook for a few minutes.
  9. 9Add in your chicken broth.
  10. 10Add in heavy cream.
  11. 11Add in some fresh sage.
  12. 12Let this simmer until it's a bit thickened.
  13. 13Finish off with Pecorino Romano.
  14. 14Cut potatoes into chunks.
  15. 15Boil potatoes until soft.
  16. 16Mash the potatoes through a really fine mesh sieve.
  17. 17Finish off the mashed potatoes with some heavy cream and butter.
  18. 18Season steak with salt and pepper.
  19. 19Sear the fat cap of the steak first to release oil into the pan.
  20. 20Cook the steak on both sides until desired doneness.
  21. 21Add in butter, garlic, and rosemary to baste the steak.
  22. 22Plate the steak with mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli.
  23. 23Pour the creamy mushroom sauce over the steak and mashed potatoes.
  24. 24Top it off with fresh parsley.

Tips

  • To make creamy mashed potatoes, mash them through a fine mesh sieve.
  • When adding butter to baste the steak, turn down the heat so the butter doesn't burn.
