Directions
1
Wash and cut the figs in half.
2
Whisk together the miso paste, orange zest, orange juice, chili flakes, sugar and lemon juice in a bowl until smooth.
3
Arrange the cut figs in a shallow baking dish and pour the sauce over them.
4
Gently toss to coat the figs with the sauce.
5
Bake in a 425°F oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the figs are juicy, jammy, and syrupy, spooning the pan juices over them every 7 minutes or so.
6
Finish with an extra squeeze of lemon and let cool.
7
Spoon the roasted figs over vanilla ice cream and top with chopped toasted nuts.
Ingredients
1 pint fresh figs
0.25 cup sugar
Orange zest
to taste chili flakes
0.5 juice of lemon juice
0.5 juice of orange juice
1 tbsp miso paste
chopped pistachios
vanilla ice cream
Equipment
oven
whisk
shallow baking dish
bowl
Tips
The trick is the combo of miso, orange, and a touch of chili which brings balance and complexity to the earthy, jammy flavors of the figs.
The figs can be enjoyed lightly warmed, room temp, or straight from the fridge.
Hazelnuts would also work well for topping.
