Ina Garten's Homemade Ranch Dressing On Bibb Lettuce

Directions

  1. 1Start by putting three chopped scallions into the bowl of a food processor.
  2. 2Add half a cup of fresh basil leaves, two tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and one and a half tablespoons of Dijon mustard.
  3. 3Add one tablespoon of good olive oil, two nicely chopped cloves of garlic, about two and a half teaspoons of kosher salt, and a teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper.
  4. 4Puree for about 15 to 20 seconds to make a really smooth mixture.
  5. 5Add one cup of mayonnaise, half a cup of Greek style yogurt, and half a cup of buttermilk.
  6. 6Puree it all in the food processor until it's really blended and smooth.
  7. 7Let it sit in the fridge for about an hour for the flavors to blend.
  8. 8To make a salad, use a wedge of Boston or bib lettuce.
  9. 9Add big chunks of lettuce, some wedges of tomato, and a very thin slice of onion.
  10. 10Pour on the buttermilk ranch dressing.
  11. 11Add a little salt and pepper.

Tips

  • Choose a good mayonnaise.
  • The dressing is even better in advance if it sits in the fridge for about an hour.
  • This dressing is fantastic for coleslaw or crudité.
  • You can leave some dressing on the side for people to help themselves to more.
