Sandwich Bread

Serves 1

Directions

  1. 1Start by adding warm water and dry yeast to a large mixing bowl and mix well. Leave it to set for a couple of minutes to ensure the yeast is active and alive.
  2. 2Add in the flour and salt and mix until it becomes a shaggy dough. You can use a Danish whisk, your hands, or a spatula to do this.
  3. 3Once your bread dough comes together into a shaggy ball, cover it with some plastic wrap or a tea towel and leave it to prove until it has doubled in size.
  4. 4Once the dough has noticeable large bubbles and has noticeably grown in volume, take a fork or damp hands and gently knock some of the gases out that have built up.
  5. 5Start to bring the dough together into a ball.
  6. 6Drizzle over some melted butter.
  7. 7Shape the dough into a loaf, pop it in a buttered loaf tin, cover it again, and leave it until it has risen all the way to the top of the loaf tin.
  8. 8Preheat your oven to about 190 degrees Celsius and then pop the loaf in the oven for about 40 minutes.
  9. 9Remove your sandwich bread from the loaf tin and let it cool on a wire rack until it is completely at room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 1.75 cups warm water
  • 2.5 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp melted butter or oil

Equipment

large mixing bowldanish whiskplastic wraploaf panwire rack

Tips

  • It's really important that you wait for the loaf to come to room temperature before cutting into it to ensure the best texture.
  • Store your bread in a bread bag, an airtight container, or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.
