Homemade Pretzels

Directions

  1. 1Combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar in a measuring cup.
  2. 2Whisk the mixture until combined, then let it sit for 10 minutes to activate the yeast.
  3. 3In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, melted butter, and the yeast mixture.
  4. 4Knead the dough in a stand mixer for about 10 minutes.
  5. 5Knead the dough by hand for a couple of minutes.
  6. 6Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it for 1 hour to rise.
  7. 7Once risen, cut the dough into four equal pieces.
  8. 8Roll out each piece of dough into a long rope.
  9. 9Form the ropes into pretzel shapes by crossing the ends, crossing again, and flipping.
  10. 10Bring water to a boil in a pan and add baking soda.
  11. 11Dip each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds per side.
  12. 12Transfer the boiled pretzels to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  13. 13Brush the pretzels with an egg wash.
  14. 14Sprinkle sea salt on top of each pretzel.
  15. 15Bake in a preheated oven at 450 M-F for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
  16. 16Serve warm with cheese dip.
