Pour one cup of milk into a small saucepan.

Add 1 to 3 tablespoons of sugar to the saucepan.

Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and a pinch of salt to the saucepan.

Mix all ingredients together on low heat until thoroughly combined.

Chop 100 grams of dark chocolate.

Add the chopped dark chocolate to the saucepan.

In a separate container, whisk together half a cup of cold milk and 2 teaspoons of cornstarch to create a slurry.

Pour the cornstarch slurry into the hot chocolate mixture in the saucepan.

Whisk the mixture on low-medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes or until thickened and it coats the back of a spoon.

Pour the hot chocolate into your mug of choice.

Top with whipped cream and more chocolate if desired, and serve immediately.
