Directions

  1. 1Sauté some chopped onion in olive oil.
  2. 2Add minced garlic to the skillet.
  3. 3Add ground beef to the skillet with the onion and garlic.
  4. 4Cook the ground beef until it's browned and crumbled.
  5. 5Add beef bouillon paste to the cooked beef and onion mixture.
  6. 6Sprinkle brown sugar over the beef mixture.
  7. 7Add dry mustard to the skillet.
  8. 8Add pepper to the mixture.
  9. 9Pour crushed tomatoes into the skillet.
  10. 10Add ketchup to the mixture.
  11. 11Add Worcestershire sauce to the skillet.
  12. 12Stir all the ingredients together and bring to a simmer.
  13. 13Add water for extra sauciness.
  14. 14Let it cook for a few minutes.
  15. 15Transfer the sloppy joe mixture to a slightly smaller skillet if the current one is too big.
  16. 16Top the sloppy joe mixture with prepared mashed potatoes.
  17. 17Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat.
  18. 18Sprinkle Colby Jack cheese over the mashed potatoes.
  19. 19Pop the skillet into the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius) for about 15 minutes.
  20. 20Crank up the broiler to get the cheese good and bubbly.
  21. 21Let the Sloppy Joe Shepherd's Pie sit for about 10 minutes to come together.

Tips

  • Let the cooked dish sit for about 10 minutes before serving to help it come together.
