In an electric mixing bowl, add 1.5 cups of warm water, 2.25 teaspoons of active dry yeast, and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Whisk well and let sit for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, add 0.25 cups of oil (vegetable oil is used in the video), 1 teaspoon of salt, and 4 cups of all-purpose flour (bread flour can be used instead). Mix with an electric mixer for about 5 minutes.
Remove the dough from the bowl and knead it by hand until it becomes smooth.
Spray a bowl with cooking spray and place the dough ball inside. Cover and place it somewhere warm for at least an hour to double in size.
Once doubled, gently turn the dough out onto a floured surface and divide it into 6 pieces (approximately 170 grams each).
Shape each piece into a pretzel.
In a baking pan, add some hot water and 0.25 cups of baking soda. Dip each pretzel into the mixture.
Place pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with egg wash.
Bake at 450 degrees for around 10 minutes.
Once baked, let cool and store in a zip lock freezer bag. Reheat before eating if desired.
