Horchata

Directions

  1. 1Add 1 cup of dry long-grain white rice into a large high-power blender.
  2. 2Pulverize the rice into a powder.
  3. 3Pour in 8 cups of very hot water.
  4. 4Add in two sticks of cinnamon.
  5. 5Put the lid back on and let it sit on the countertop overnight until the water is cooled and the cinnamon sticks have softened.
  6. 6Once the water is cooled and the cinnamon sticks have softened, make sure the lid is very secure and blend for 2 minutes.
  7. 7Get a pitcher, a strainer, and some cheesecloth.
  8. 8Slowly pour the mixture through the cheesecloth into the pitcher.
  9. 9Discard any gritty rice or big cinnamon bits caught in the cheesecloth and strainer.
  10. 10Add a can of evaporated milk into the pitcher.
  11. 11Add a can of sweetened condensed milk into the pitcher.
  12. 12Add a touch of vanilla to the pitcher.
  13. 13Add 1/4 cup of sugar into the pitcher.
  14. 14Give it a good stir to incorporate everything.
  15. 15Pour the horchata over ice in a cup.

Tips
