Directions

  1. 1Combine milk, sugar, eggs, melted butter, salt, bread flour, and yeast in a bread machine. Use the dough cycle.
  2. 2If not using a bread machine, mix ingredients in a mixer and let dough rise in a covered bowl until doubled.
  3. 3Once dough cycle is complete, punch down the dough.
  4. 4Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle approximately 12x10 inches.
  5. 5Spread softened butter over the dough, reaching all edges.
  6. 6Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
  7. 7Roll up the dough and cut into 12 equal pieces using a pizza wheel or knife.
  8. 8Place the cinnamon roll pieces into a greased 9x13 inch pan.
  9. 9Optionally, cover the pan and refrigerate for up to 48 hours for make-ahead cinnamon rolls.
  10. 10If baking immediately, let the rolls rise for about 45 minutes.
  11. 11Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 16-20 minutes.
  12. 12While baking, prepare the frosting by creaming softened butter, then adding cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.

Tips

  • The dough can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 48 hours.
  • For a thicker frosting, warm the baked cinnamon rolls slightly before frosting.
  • Homemade brown sugar stays soft and does not require special storage.
  • If butter is melted instead of softened, sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon on first.
