Directions

  1. 1To a bowl, add the semolina, sour curd, and water.
  2. 2Give it all a nice mix.
  3. 3Once the rava absorbs all the curd and water, transfer it to a mixer jar.
  4. 4Pour a little bit of water and grind it to a nice smooth batter.
  5. 5Once done, transfer the batter to a bowl.
  6. 6To a pan, add the oil.
  7. 7Once the oil is hot, add the chana dal, mustard seeds, and cumin seeds and roast well.
  8. 8Once the mustard seeds start spluttering, add the finely chopped onion, green chillies, and curry leaves.
  9. 9Mix it all well.
  10. 10Cook the onions for about 5 minutes, but do not let the onions turn to a golden-brown color.
  11. 11To this, add the asafoetida and salt.
  12. 12Give it all a nice mix.
  13. 13Now add a handful of coriander leaves and mix well.
  14. 14Turn off the stove and transfer the tempering to the dosa batter.
  15. 15Add a tablespoon of rice flour and mix it well using a spatula or a ladle.
  16. 16Beat the batter well till it's all well combined.
  17. 17Once the batter is nice and fluffy, you can check for seasoning and add salt if required.
  18. 18Just before preparing the dosas, add a pinch of baking soda and mix well.
  19. 19To the tempering pan, add about 2 teaspoons of oil.
  20. 20Once the oil is hot, slowly pour in the dosa batter into the tempering pan.
  21. 21Cook the dosa on medium flame.
  22. 22Once it gets cooked on one side, gently flip it to the other side.
  23. 23Flip it back to the other side and check if it's completely cooked.
  24. 24Once the bun dosa is fully cooked, remove it from the tempering pan and serve it immediately, nice and hot.

  • 1 tsp Chana Dal
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 no. Chopped Onion
  • 2 nos Chopped Green Chilli
  • Curry Leaves
  • 0.25 tsp Hing / Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 handful Coriander Leaves
  • 1 tbsp Rice Flour
  • 1 pinch Baking Soda

Tips

  • Adding sour curd is very essential for this recipe.
  • You can use a spoon or a fork or whatever is comfortable for you to flip the dosa.
  • You can enjoy these dosas with any chutney of your choice.
  • This is entirely optional, but adding a pinch of baking soda will help the dosa to be nice and fluffy.
