Directions

  1. 1Start by adding 3 cups of all-purpose flour into a bowl.
  2. 2Make a well in the middle of the flour.
  3. 3Add 1 teaspoon of regular salt into the well.
  4. 4Add 1 and 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder.
  5. 5Pour hot water, about 105 degrees, into the flour.
  6. 6Add 1/3 cup of melted butter (or baking fat) to the mixture.
  7. 7Mix with a kneading whisk until the masa starts to come together.
  8. 8Knead the dough until it comes together.
  9. 9Cover the dough in the bowl and let it rest for about 15 minutes.
  10. 10Clean up the work surface.
  11. 11Divide the dough into portions depending on how big you want your tortillas.
  12. 12Roll the dough portions into balls.
  13. 13Lightly flour a surface.
  14. 14Flatten the dough balls.
  15. 15Sprinkle a little flour on top of the flattened dough.
  16. 16Roll them out to about 7 inches in diameter.
  17. 17Cook each tortilla on a pan over medium-high heat for about 30 to 40 seconds on each side.
  18. 18Add a little bit of butter and salt to the tortilla.
