1Split open and scrape the seeds out of the vanilla pods.
2Keep the pods because they will be needed later.
3Add 250g of sugar to the carafe.
4Pour 125g of hot water (at least 190 degrees Fahrenheit) into the carafe.
5Stir the sugar and water together until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup has cooled slightly.
6Add about 2ml or half a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
7Add the scraped vanilla seeds to the mixture.
8Stir everything together until the seeds are evenly incorporated.
9Place the saved vanilla pods into the bottle where the syrup will be stored.
10Pour the vanilla syrup into the bottle with the pods.
11Label the bottle with the date and store it in the fridge between uses.
Ingredients
250 g granulated sugar
125 g hot water
2 ml vanilla extract
2 vanilla pods
Equipment
gram scalecarafeknifebottlespoon
Tips
If you don’t have a water kettle, you can combine the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat for 4-5 minutes before resuming the recipe as I have it here.
Store in a bottle with the pods. Keep in the fridge, this syrup will last for at least 3 weeks (almost definitely even longer but use your eyes and pay attention for any potential bacterial growth)
