Easy Pickled Eggs

Serves 12

Directions

  1. 1Combine onion, white vinegar, water, sugar, salt, bay leaf, and pickling spices in a medium saucepan.
  2. 2Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and let simmer.
  3. 3Remove from the heat and cool slightly.
  4. 4Add a garlic clove to an empty glass jar, and place 3 hard-boiled eggs on top.
  5. 5Layer the eggs with some of the cooked onion slices and a sprig of fresh dill, repeating until the jar is full.
  6. 6Pour the pickling liquid over the eggs.
  7. 7Close the jar and refrigerate for at least 3-4 days before eating.

Ingredients

  • 12 whole large hard boiled egg
  • 2 to 3 sprig fresh dill
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 large white onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1 whole bay leaf
  • 4 teaspoon pickling spices

Equipment

saucepan1 qt jar

Tips

  • Hard boil the eggs using a pressure cooker or air fryer for best results.
  • Substitute cider vinegar for the white vinegar if preferred.
  • Choosing pickling spices without cloves will help prevent the brine from turning brown.
  • Add red onion or sliced beets to the jar to make the eggs pink.
  • Add extra dill, sliced peppers, or jalapeños for more flavor.
  • If using canned beets, replace the water with the beet juice.
  • These will keep for weeks in the refrigerator.
