Mix half a cup of soy sauce.

Add 4 tablespoons of sugar.

Whisk until combined.

Pour the mixture into a pan.

Simmer on medium-low for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Once the sauce thickens, it is ready.

Optionally, add a quarter teaspoon of chili flakes for spice.

Optionally, add a teaspoon of sesame oil for umami.

Once completely cooled, the sauce can be used to marinate chicken.

Tips
It is naturally quite salty, use low sodium soy sauce for more control.
Stores for 5 days in an airtight container.
