Directions

  1. 1Add a quarter cup of warm water to a large bowl.
  2. 2Add one tablespoon of active dry yeast.
  3. 3Add a little bit of sugar to help wake up the yeast.
  4. 4Stir the yeast mixture and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it gets foamy.
  5. 5While the yeast wakes up, combine one cup of whole milk and a quarter cup of salted butter.
  6. 6Microwave the milk and butter mixture until the butter is just melted, not boiling hot.
  7. 7Add the butter-milk mixture to the yeast mixture.
  8. 8Add one large egg.
  9. 9Add a quarter cup of sugar.
  10. 10Add three and a half cups of bread flour.
  11. 11Mix it all together until it forms a shaggy dough.
  12. 12Knead the dough by hand until it looks very smooth, soft, and stretchy.
  13. 13Wipe out the bowl and give it a little bit of oil.
  14. 14Flip the dough over once or twice to coat it.
  15. 15Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for about one hour until it's doubled in size.
  16. 16Punch down the doubled-up dough.
  17. 17Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  18. 18Portion out the dough into about 16 equal portions by weighing the dough and dividing by 16.
  19. 19Shape each dough portion by simply pushing the edges up underneath itself to create a round top.
  20. 20Evenly space the shaped rolls in a buttered baking dish.
  21. 21Cover the baking dish and let the rolls rest and rise until they are fluffy and soft for about another hour.
  22. 22Bake the rolls at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15-18 minutes.
  23. 23Once out of the oven, brush them with some butter.
