Classic Kremshnit – Israeli Dairy Napoleon

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 355°F.
  2. 2Lay the puff pastry sheets on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, cut in half down the middle, and prick gently with a fork.
  3. 3Cover with another piece of parchment paper and place another baking tray or oven-safe pan on top to weigh it down.
  4. 4Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and crispy, then let cool.
  5. 5Break or cut one of the baked sheets into small pieces for the topping and set aside.
  6. 6Whip the heavy cream, milk, vanilla pudding powder, and sugar until firm peaks form.
  7. 7Assemble the Kremshnit by placing one full sheet of baked puff pastry on a tray, spreading cream on top, and repeating until you have 3 layers of puff pastry with cream as the top layer.
  8. 8Cover the entire assembly with the crumbled puff pastry pieces.
  9. 9Sprinkle generously with powdered sugar and chill for at least 3 hours.
  10. 10Serve with sliced strawberries in sugar on top as garnish.

Tips

  • Let the kremshnit set in the fridge for at least 3–4 hours before serving to firm up.
  • Slice gently with a serrated knife or a sharp knife dipped in hot water to prevent the top from cracking.
