WW2 Butter Rationing Trick

Directions

  1. 1Take two sticks of butter and leave them on the counter to soften.
  2. 2Start whipping the softened butter in your mixer (KitchenAid or hand mixer).
  3. 3Slowly add in one cup of slightly chilled evaporated milk, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to mix.
  4. 4Scrape down the sides of the bowl often as you mix.
  5. 5Once all the milk is incorporated, the butter is ready to be used.
  6. 6If not using immediately, store the butter in the refrigerator.
  7. 7When ready to use from the refrigerator, allow it to warm up slightly before whipping to ensure it spreads well.
