Hot Dog Burnt Ends

Directions

  1. 1Preheat your smoker to 225F.
  2. 2Cover hot dogs with yellow mustard, then the bbq rub.
  3. 3Smoke for 1 hour.
  4. 4Remove from the smoker.
  5. 5Increase temperature to 400F.
  6. 6Cut each hot dog into three even pieces.
  7. 7Place in a disposable pan and top with the brown sugar, bbq sauce, and pats of butter.
  8. 8Put back in the smoker for 30-45 minutes, stirring often.
  9. 9Burnt ends are ready when the sugar has caramelized and the sauce has thickened.

  • 12 Hot Dogs
  • 2 Tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 0.25 Cup BBQ Rub
  • 0.33 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 0.5 Cup BBQ Sauce
  • 4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, sliced

Tips

  • When cutting the hot dogs, try to make them all a uniform size.
  • Experiment with different sauces and seasonings like honey or hot honey instead of brown sugar, and different rubs like Nashville Hot.
  • Serve with toothpicks as an appetizer, or in French rolls for sandwiches.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, place on a baking sheet and cook in the oven at 350F for 7-10 minutes, or in an air fryer basket at 350F for 4 minutes.
