Tofu Manchurian

Directions

  1. 1Wrap the block of tofu in paper towels and place something heavy on top for about 10 minutes to press out excess water.
  2. 2Cube the tofu into equal small pieces and set aside.
  3. 3Mix together the cornstarch, rice flour, and spices (garlic powder, ground black pepper, red chili powder, salt).
  4. 4Toss in the cubed tofu and mix until all pieces are completely and evenly coated with the flour/spice mixture.
  5. 5Drop 7-8 tofu pieces into hot oil and fry until golden brown.
  6. 6Take the fried tofu out of the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. 7In a large pan, heat up one tablespoon of oil.
  8. 8Add in the minced garlic, chili, and grated ginger and sizzle for a minute.
  9. 9Add in the rest of the ingredients for the sauce (tomato ketchup, red chili sauce, soy sauce, white vinegar, sugar, salt to taste, cornstarch slurry) and let the sauce simmer and slightly thicken.
  10. 10Toss in the fried pieces of tofu and coat thoroughly.
  11. 11Top with chopped green onions and/or cilantro and sesame seeds.
