Add 2 cups of sugar to a pot.

Add a half cup of water.

Turn your heat to medium-high and bring it to a boil.

Once it begins to boil, add your candy thermometer.

When it reaches 350 degrees, turn off the heat.

Carefully whisk in 1.5 sticks of butter.

Slowly whisk in 1 cup of heavy whipping cream.

Add about an eighth or a fourth teaspoon of salt.

Add one teaspoon of vanilla.

Let it cool for about 10 minutes.

Strain it through a mesh strainer to make it smoother.

Let it cool completely before sticking it in the refrigerator.

Tips
Have all ingredients at room temperature so that nothing seizes up.
If you swap out the sugars for a brown sugar, you can make yourself some butterscotch sauce.
The sauce will last as long as your cream is good.
