Directions

  1. 1Roast jowar on medium heat for about 5 minutes, until golden.
  2. 2Cool the jowar and grind into a coarse powder.
  3. 3Add ghee to a pressure cooker, then add whole spices (cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf and cumin seeds) and cashew nuts.
  4. 4Add chopped ginger and green chillies.
  5. 5Add carrot, beans and peas.
  6. 6Saute for 2 minutes.
  7. 7Add chopped tomatoes and mix.
  8. 8Add washed moong dal and mix with the vegetables.
  9. 9Add turmeric powder, salt and garam masala.
  10. 10Add powdered jowar and mix.
  11. 11Add water, bring to a boil, then cover and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
  12. 12Serve hot, optionally garnished with roasted cashews.

  • 0.5 cup peas
  • 2 nos tomato
  • 0.5 cup moong dal
  • 0.5 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 4 cups water

Tips

  • Jowar, also known as sorghum or great millet, is low in calories but high in fiber and protein.
  • Jowar is a good choice for weight watchers.
  • To make it your own, you can add as many veggies as possible.
  • The dish is great as is, but if you want, you can enjoy it with some nice raita or pickle by the side.
  • This recipe doesn't include onions or garlic.
