Directions

  1. 1Add 3 cups of plain or bread flour to a bowl.
  2. 2Add one sachet of fast-action yeast or a tablespoon of yeast to the bowl.
  3. 3Add a teaspoon of salt to the bowl.
  4. 4Add 1.5 cups of warm water to the bowl using the same mug.
  5. 5Mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon until you have a sticky dough.
  6. 6Cover the bowl with a tea towel and leave it to rise in a warm place for about an hour until it has doubled in size with bubbles on the surface.
  7. 7Using two spoons, scoop out portions of the dough and place them onto parchment paper on a baking sheet, making six equal buns.
  8. 8Sprinkle some flour and chia seeds over the buns.
  9. 9Heat your oven to 230 degrees Celsius.
  10. 10Add a water bath to the lower shelf of the oven to create steam and protect the buns.
  11. 11Place the baking sheet with the buns on the middle rack of the oven.
  12. 12Bake for 25 minutes or until nice and golden brown.

Tips

  • To fasten the rising process, heat your oven to 50°C whilst you mix, then turn it off and place the bowl inside the oven.
  • The water bath really helps to develop a crust and create a light and fluffy crumb.
  • You can add nuts or herbs to the rolls if you wish.
  • Store the bread like regular bread in a bag, in a bread bin, or slice and put it in the freezer.
