Green Beans, Tofu & Pork Stir Fry

Directions

  1. 1Rough chop the garlic.
  2. 2Line up your green beans with the stem at the top.
  3. 3Trim off the stem of the green beans.
  4. 4Cut the green beans in half.
  5. 5Cut the firm tofu in half.
  6. 6Cut the tofu into cubes.
  7. 7Prepare the sauce by adding water (or chicken broth) and oyster sauce (or mushroom sauce substitute) to a measuring cup.
  8. 8Add regular soy sauce to the sauce mixture.
  9. 9Add dark soy sauce for color to the sauce mixture.
  10. 10Add chicken bouillon to the sauce mixture.
  11. 11Add sugar for balance to the sauce mixture.
  12. 12Add white or black pepper to the sauce mixture.
  13. 13Give the sauce a good stir.
  14. 14To your wok, add cooking oil.
  15. 15Add the cubed tofu to the wok.
  16. 16Leave the tofu alone for a couple of minutes on each side so it turns nice and golden.
  17. 17Set aside the fried tofu.
  18. 18Add a little more oil to the wok.
  19. 19Add the minced garlic to the wok.
  20. 20Sauté the garlic for 30 seconds.
  21. 21Add your ground meat to the wok.
  22. 22Once the ground meat is cooked through, add in the green beans.
  23. 23Give the green beans and meat a quick toss.
  24. 24Pour in the prepared sauce.
  25. 25Let the green beans cook for about 2-3 minutes if you like them crunchy.
  26. 26Pour in the cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water).
  27. 27Turn off the heat and then add in the fried tofu.
  28. 28Add a little drizzle of sesame oil.
  29. 29Give it one more gentle toss and dinner's ready.

  • 14 oz firm tofu, drained
  • 0.5 lb ground pork, turkey, or chicken
  • 5 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 0.75 cup water or chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp chicken bouillon
  • 0.25 tsp white or black pepper
  • cooking oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Tips

  • For a better hold when stir-frying, make sure to buy firm tofu.
  • The curly end of the green bean is edible.
  • If you want to make this vegetarian, just leave out the meat.
  • If you like your green beans on the crunchy side, cook them for about 2-3 minutes.
