Butter a 9x13 inch pan.

Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

Pour in 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk.

Add in 2 cups of brown sugar.

Add in 1 cup of corn syrup.

Stir using a rubber spatula, scraping the sides and bottom.

Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly until it reaches 235-245°F (soft-ball stage).

Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

Pour into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Let cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours before slicing into squares.

Wrap each caramel individually in wax paper.
