Serves 1

Directions

  1. 1Add 400g of bread flour, 2 teaspoons of salt, and 2 teaspoons of yeast to a bowl, keeping the salt and yeast on separate sides.
  2. 2Quickly mix the dry ingredients together until the yeast is coated by the flour.
  3. 3Add 300ml of warm water to the dry ingredients.
  4. 4Mix with a wooden spoon until all the flour is incorporated and everything is mixed together, forming a shaggy dough.
  5. 5Cover the bowl tightly with a lid or cling film.
  6. 6Leave the dough to rise for two to three hours until it has doubled in size.
  7. 7Preheat your Dutch oven in the oven at 210 degrees fan for about 30 minutes.
  8. 8Tip the dough out onto the counter, trying not to work it too much.
  9. 9Shape the dough into a rough round.
  10. 10Place the shaped dough onto baking paper and carefully lower it into the preheated hot Dutch oven.
  11. 11Bake with the lid on for 25 minutes.
  12. 12Remove the lid and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes to brown the crust.
  13. 13Check if the bread is cooked through by tapping the bottom; it should sound hollow.
  14. 14Leave the bread to cool for about an hour before cutting.
