Directions
1
Combine warm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and one packet of active dry yeast in a measuring cup.
2
Mix the yeast mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes until a thin layer of foam appears.
3
In a mixing bowl, combine 3.5 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, one egg, 0.25 cup of melted butter, 1 teaspoon of salt, and the yeast mixture.
4
Mix with a dough hook for about 10 minutes.
5
Knead the dough by hand for a couple of minutes until it forms a smooth ball.
6
Drizzle a little olive oil in a bowl and spread it evenly.
7
Place the dough into the greased bowl.
8
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise for one hour until it has doubled in size.
9
Punch the air out of the risen dough and place it on a clean surface.
10
Roll the dough into a rectangle using a rolling pin.
11
Prepare the filling by mixing 0.33 cup of softened butter, 0.75 cup of brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon until all combined.
12
Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the rolled-out dough.
13
Roll the dough from the back to form a log.
14
Cut the rolled dough in half, then cut each half in half, and then one more time, resulting in 8 equal pieces.
15
Add the cut cinnamon rolls to a greased baking dish.
16
Cover the baking dish and let the cinnamon rolls rest for another 30 minutes until they are nice and puffy.
17
Bake in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes.
18
While the cinnamon rolls are baking, prepare the icing by combining 1 cup of powdered sugar and about 3 tablespoons of milk in a measuring cup.
19
Whisk the icing mixture, adding a splash of vanilla extract.
20
Once the cinnamon rolls are done, brush the icing on them while they are still hot.
