Sweet & Savory Mongolian Beef Noodles

Directions

  1. 1Boil noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. 2Toss sliced beef with cornstarch and soy sauce. Let sit 10 minutes.
  3. 3Heat oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat.
  4. 4Cook beef 2 3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. 5In the same pan, sauté garlic, onion, and bell peppers for 2 3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
  6. 6In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin, ginger, sesame oil, broth, and red pepper flakes.
  7. 7Return beef to the pan. Add cooked noodles.
  8. 8Pour sauce over everything and toss well.
  9. 9Cook 2 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the noodles.
  10. 10Sprinkle with green onions and serve hot.

  • 12 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
  • for boiling Salted water
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 green onions, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.33 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 0.25 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
