Serves 2

Directions

  1. 1Add the ground beef to a frying pan on medium heat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula.
  2. 2Stir in the minced garlic and minced ginger, and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. 3Add all the ingredients for the sauce into the pan and stir well to coat the beef.
  4. 4Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy with light caramelization.
  5. 5Serve the Korean ground beef over freshly cooked jasmine rice.
  6. 6Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and chopped spring onions before serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp gochujang paste
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • to taste optional jasmine rice, cooked
  • to taste toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • to taste spring onions, chopped (optional)
  • to taste cooking oil (optional)

Tips

  • If using leaner ground beef, use cooking oil.
  • For ease of cooking, you can mix all the ingredients for the sauce together beforehand.
  • For a deeper flavor, allow the sauce to caramelize for an extra minute, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  • Adjust sweetness and saltiness to taste.
  • Gochujang can be substituted with chili flakes for a simpler, spicier variation.
