Orange Chicken

Directions

  1. 1Add corn starch and flour to the cubed chicken thighs.
  2. 2Splash in some soy sauce and water until each piece is covered with a beautiful paste.
  3. 3Drop the coated chicken into oil heated to about 365 degrees Fahrenheit for a few minutes.
  4. 4Pull the chicken out and allow them to rest.
  5. 5Put the chicken back in for a minute to get extra golden.
  6. 6Transfer the chicken to a wired rack and sprinkle with a little salt.
  7. 7For the sauce, start by melting down some butter in a pan.
  8. 8Add fresh minced garlic.
  9. 9Add chili flakes and toast them down.
  10. 10Pour in sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and rice vinegar.
  11. 11Add orange juice.
  12. 12Once the sauce bubbles, drop it to a simmer and let it reduce for a few minutes.
  13. 13Add brown sugar.
  14. 14Add a corn starch slurry (2 tsp corn starch mixed with 2 tsp water) to thicken the sauce.
  15. 15Toss the fried chicken into the sauce, making sure every crevice is covered.
  16. 16Finish the chicken with a little bit of sesame seeds.
  17. 17To make the noodles, throw some cooked lo mein into a hot wok.
  18. 18Add a mixture of sesame seed oil, soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, and water to the noodles.
  19. 19Serve the orange chicken over the lo mein noodles.
  20. 20Garnish with a little more sesame seeds.

  • 0.25 cup rice vinegar
  • 1.5 cup orange juice
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp corn starch
  • 2 tsp water
  • 8 oz lo mein
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame seed oil
  • salt
  • sesame seeds
