Air Fryer Onion Rings

Directions

  1. 1Trim off the ends of the onion, cut into thick slices and gently separate onion layers into rings.
  2. 2Soak the onion rings in water until preparing all the other ingredients.
  3. 3Add ground oats, tapioca starch, salt, garlic powder, onion powder and cayenne pepper to a bowl.
  4. 4Whisk egg, milk, and yogurt together in a separate bowl.
  5. 5Add crushed cornflakes and parmesan cheese in another bowl and mix to combine.
  6. 6Dredge onion rings into the oat mixture, shake off the excess.
  7. 7Dip each onion into the egg mixture and then coat it in the cornflake parmesan mixture until completely covered.
  8. 8Place coated onion rings in a single layer in the air-fryer.
  9. 9Air-fry for 10 minutes at 400F (200C).
  10. 10Brush with some olive oil and continue air-frying.
  11. 11Serve with Greek yogurt tartar sauce.
  12. 12Add Greek yogurt, grated pickles, mustard, maple syrup, anchovies or capers, salt and black pepper for tartar sauce.

  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 0.25 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 cup unsweetened cornflakes
  • 0.25 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 0.5 cup sesame seeds
  • 0.25 cup nutritional yeast
  • tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 0.25 cup grated pickles
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp anchovies or capers
  • pinch salt
  • pinch black pepper

Tips

  • Soak onion rings in water to lose any harsh onion taste.
  • If you don't have an air fryer, you can bake in the oven for 20 minutes or so.
  • Like most crispy foods, they're best eaten warm, but you can reheat in the air fryer for two to three minutes.
