Place one stick of unsalted butter in a high-sided pan over medium heat.

Add one cup of maple syrup to the pan.

Add 1/3 cup of heavy whipping cream to the pan.

Bring the mixture to a low boil, stirring frequently.

Reduce heat to a low simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens.

Remove from heat.

Stir in one teaspoon of vanilla extract.

If the syrup is not thick enough, stir in a quarter teaspoon of baking soda.

Pour the butter syrup over pancakes and serve.

0.33 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
0.25 tsp baking soda
