Homemade Chai Concentrate

Directions

  1. 1Add the ginger, star anise, black peppercorns, nutmeg, cloves, and cardamom to a food processor and pulse 4-5 times, or until everything is roughly chopped.
  2. 2Transfer the spice mixture to a large pot, along with the tea bags, vanilla bean, cinnamon sticks, and filtered water.
  3. 3Bring to a simmer over low-medium heat and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. 4Turn off the heat, stir in your sweetener of choice, cover the pot, and let steep until cooled.
  5. 5Strain and transfer the chai concentrate to an airtight container.

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 2 tsp cardamom pods
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • vanilla bean, sliced open
  • 5 black tea bag
  • 5 cup filtered water
  • 1/4 cup sweetener

Tips

  • You can substitute the vanilla bean by mixing in 1 tsp vanilla extract at the end.
  • Recommended sweeteners include maple syrup or coconut sugar.
