Salted Caramel Sauce

Directions

  1. 1Pour the granulated sugar into a pot and put it over medium heat.
  2. 2Continuously stir the sugar until it melts and changes to a beautiful amber color.
  3. 3Carefully add the butter into the melted sugar and reduce the heat to low. Melt all the butter.
  4. 4Slowly add the heavy cream, stirring carefully, and then stop stirring.
  5. 5Increase the heat to medium and lightly boil for 60 seconds.
  6. 6Off the heat, stir in a teaspoon of kosher salt.
  7. 7Pour the salted caramel sauce into a glass or other heatproof container.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Tips

  • Caramelizing sugar gets very very hot, so make sure to use a wooden spoon, a bamboo spoon or a red-handled rubber spatula, which is designed for high temperatures.
  • When working with sugar, scrape inside the corners of your pot because it likes to sit there and maybe overcaramelize or burn.
