Directions
- 1Add two sticks of unsalted butter, at room temperature, and one cup of granulated sugar to a stand mixer bowl.
- 2Beat the butter and sugar until smooth for about three minutes.
- 3While the butter and sugar are creaming, add three cups of flour, half a teaspoon of salt, and two teaspoons of baking powder to a separate bowl.
- 4Add one teaspoon of vanilla extract, half a teaspoon of almond extract (optional), and one egg to the creamed butter and sugar mixture.
- 5Mix the wet ingredients together until fully combined.
- 6Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough ball forms that pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- 7Divide the dough into two balls, clean and flour your work surface, and preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 8Roll out the dough to about a quarter-inch thickness.
- 9Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes from the rolled-out dough.
- 10Place the cut-out cookies on baking sheets and bake for 6-8 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
- 11Remove cookies from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.
