Place a stick of butter in a pan and put it in the oven while it preheats to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the pan once the butter is melted, approximately 10-12 minutes.
Add 5 cups of self-rising flour to a large bowl.
Add 1.5 cups of sour cream to the flour.
Cut the sour cream into the flour using a fork until combined.
Pour 1 cup of carbonated liquid into the mixture.
Cut the carbonated liquid into the mixture until a dough is formed.
Take the leftover flour from the bowl and spread it out on a clean, flat surface.
Knead the dough on the floured surface.
Roll out the dough to about 3/4 to 1 inch thick.
Cut out biscuits by pressing straight down with a biscuit cutter, without twisting, to prevent the edges from sealing. Re-knead and cut remaining dough to yield 12 biscuits.
Place the cut biscuits into the pan with melted butter.
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 15 minutes.
Brush the baked biscuits with extra melted butter.
