Homemade Sweet Chili Sauce

Directions

  1. 1Combine one cup of water and one cup of sugar in a pan and cook until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. 2While the sugar water is heating, prepare the cornstarch slurry by adding three tablespoons of cornstarch to four to five tablespoons of water in a bowl.
  3. 3Set the cornstarch slurry aside.
  4. 4Once the sugar has dissolved, add one tablespoon of rice vinegar and one tablespoon of crushed red peppers.
  5. 5Add half a tablespoon of smoked paprika, or a teaspoon to a tablespoon, depending on preference.
  6. 6Add about six cloves of garlic (or as much as you like).
  7. 7Add one tablespoon of soy sauce.
  8. 8Give the cornstarch slurry another good mix.
  9. 9Pour in the cornstarch slurry a little bit at a time, stirring continuously, until your desired thickness is reached.
  10. 10Whisk all ingredients together.
  11. 11Transfer the sweet chili sauce to a jar.
