Old-Fashioned Boiled Milk Frosting

Directions

  1. 1In a medium-sized saucepan, combine granulated sugar and all-purpose flour.
  2. 2Add half of the milk to the mixture and whisk until smooth.
  3. 3Add the remaining milk.
  4. 4Turn the burner on medium heat and continue to whisk until the mixture thickens into a paste.
  5. 5Remove the paste from heat and place it in the fridge to cool to room temperature.
  6. 6While the milk paste is cooling, cream up a cup of butter in a bowl.
  7. 7Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the creamed butter.
  8. 8Add the cooled milk paste to the butter mixture.
  9. 9Mix the frosting on high for about 10 minutes until it's light and fluffy.

Tips

  • You want real butter for this recipe, not margarine.
  • Whisk continuously to make sure you don't scorch the bottom of the saucepan.
