Minecraft Cake

Directions

  1. 1Crack 4 eggs into a large glass bowl.
  2. 2Add 1 cup of sugar to the bowl.
  3. 3Cut open a carton of buttermilk and pour 175 ml into the bowl.
  4. 4Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract to the mixture.
  5. 5Add 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder to a separate large glass bowl.
  6. 6Add 1 tsp of baking powder to the bowl with cocoa powder.
  7. 7Add 2 cups of flour to the bowl with cocoa powder.
  8. 8Sift the dry ingredients.
  9. 9Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  10. 10Grease a square cake pan with cooking spray.
  11. 11Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake pans.
  12. 12Bake the cake in the oven.
  13. 13Remove the baked cakes from the oven and place them on a cooling rack.
  14. 14Unwrap 3 sticks of butter and place them in a large glass bowl.
  15. 15Open 2 bags of powdered sugar and add them to the butter.
  16. 16Add 2 tbsp of milk and 1 tsp of vanilla extract to the butter and powdered sugar.
  17. 17Mix the frosting ingredients using a hand mixer until creamy.
  18. 18Place one cake layer on a serving platter and spread a generous amount of frosting on top using an offset spatula.
  19. 19Repeat with remaining cake layers and frosting.
  20. 20Apply a final layer of frosting to the top of the cake using a piping bag and an offset spatula.
  21. 21Roll out white fondant and cut it into strips and squares to cover the sides and top of the cake, creating a pixelated look.
  22. 22Cut red fondant into small squares and place them on top of the white fondant to mimic the design of a Minecraft cake.
