Grandma's Pumpkin Pie

Directions

  1. 1Add 29 ounces of canned pumpkin to a large mixing bowl.
  2. 2Add 1 and a half cups of sugar to the pumpkin.
  3. 3Add 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.

  5. 5Add 1 teaspoon of ginger.
  6. 6Add half a teaspoon of nutmeg.
  7. 7Add 1 teaspoon of ground cloves.
  8. 8Mix the pumpkin, sugar, and spices together in the bowl.
  9. 9Add 6 eggs to the mixture.
  10. 10Blend the eggs into the mixture.
  11. 11Add 1 can of evaporated milk.
  12. 12Mix the evaporated milk into the mixture.
  13. 13Add 3 and a half cups of whole milk.
  14. 14Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  15. 15Pour the liquid filling into 9-inch pastry shells.
  16. 16Carefully place the pies in the oven.
  17. 17Bake the pies at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 50 minutes.
  18. 18Cut and serve the pumpkin pie, optionally with whipped cream.

Tips

  • To test for doneness, stick a tableknife into filling halfway between the center and side. If the knife comes out clean, the pie is done. If not, it needs more!
  • Bake for 35 minutes, then cover with foil to prevent the crust from browning too much, and bake for another 15 minutes.
  • It helps to stick your tongue out the side of your mouth or bite your lip while placing the full pie shells in the oven to avoid spilling or burning yourself.
