Directions

  1. 1Add plain flour to a bowl.
  2. 2Add instant yeast.
  3. 3Add sugar.
  4. 4Add salt.
  5. 5Stir the dry ingredients together.
  6. 6Add an egg to the mixture.
  7. 7Pour in warm milk.
  8. 8Mix until a dough forms.
  9. 9Add softened unsalted butter.
  10. 10Mix again until the butter is fully incorporated into the dough.
  11. 11Transfer the dough to a clean bowl.
  12. 12Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise until double in size.
  13. 13Punch down the risen dough to release air.
  14. 14Place the dough on a clean surface and roll it into a log shape.
  15. 15Cut the dough into 16 equal pieces, approximately 50g each.
  16. 16Form each piece of dough into a round bun.
  17. 17Place 8 buns into each loaf pan.
  18. 18Cover the pans with a cloth and let the buns rise for an hour.
  19. 19Prepare the egg wash by mixing one egg yolk and one tablespoon of milk.
  20. 20Brush the egg wash over the risen buns.
  21. 21Bake at 140 degrees Celsius in a convection oven for 20 minutes.
  22. 22Remove the baked buns from the oven.
  23. 23Brush the warm buns with butter.
  24. 24Allow the buns to cool on a cooling rack.
  25. 25Brush the cooled buns with butter again.
  26. 26Coat the buttered area of the buns with white sugar.
