Directions

  1. 1Add warm whole milk to a bowl, then add some of the granulated sugar and stir to combine
  2. 2Sprinkle the top with active dry yeast and let rest for a minute
  3. 3Whisk the yeast into the milk mixture, then set aside and let proof for 5 minutes until the yeast looks foamy
  4. 4Add warm melted unsalted butter
  5. 5Add the rest of the sugar and the salt
  6. 6Add all-purpose flour half a cup at a time, whisking to incorporate between each addition until too thick to whisk
  7. 7Switch to the dough hook attachment, and set the mixer to speed 2, continuing to add the flour
  8. 8Scrape down mixing bowl to help the flour incorporate evenly, then knead for 2 minutes on speed 2
  9. 9Transfer dough to a well-oiled large mixing bowl
  10. 10Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest and rise in a warm room for about 2 hours
  11. 11Lightly dust a smooth work surface with flour
  12. 12Turn the dough out and form it into 15 dough balls
  13. 13Lightly oil a casserole dish, and add your dough balls so they're evenly spaced in the pan
  14. 14Cover with plastic wrap, and let them rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until they're visibly puffed
  15. 15Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit
  16. 16Brush the tops with melted butter
  17. 17Sprinkle the tops with Kosher salt
  18. 18Bake in the center of a preheating oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 23 to 25 minutes
  19. 19Let the rolls cool slightly before serving
